Audio Visual Equipment

In order to get Wexer up and running as soon as possible, you’ll need to pair the system with an Audio-Visual package, and you’ll likely need a qualified Audio-Visual or Low Voltage Technician to install it for you. If you need any advice on your AV purchases please reach out to us HERE

Television-Based Systems

  • Pros: Easier and cheaper to install and maintain over time.
  • Cons: For larger rooms, even a 90'' TV could feel too small.

SIZE: We recommend 70” minimum size or more, and Commercial Level Digital Signage when budget allows for it

VIDEO: Your Display needs one open HDMI port

AUDIO: Your Display needs an on-board 3.5mm (AUX) or RCA (Red/White) audio port, and should be capable of handling a separate audio channel, or ‘Manual Audio’, or ‘Audio IN’.

SOUND BAR: (Optional): We do recommend sound bars as flat-screen TV speakers are sometimes not ideal for large spaces. If you purchase a sound bar, ensure it has a 3.5mm or RCA audio port. “Optical” ports are non-compatible with our systems. If your TV does not have the right audio port, a Sound Bar may be necessary to ‘work-around’ this.

TV WALL MOUNT: We recommend purchasing quality TV Wall Mounts that can support more than the published weight of your television, and allow it to swing out from the wall to access the ports on the back, allowing for easier installation and maintenance over time. These mounts are typically in the ~$150 range.

CABLING:
Video: Use only straight DVI-Dual (DVI-D) to HDMI cables with no adapters or converters, in lengths up to 10 meters. Video cabling runs beyond 10 meters should also include an HDBaseT signal booster (~$150).

Audio: 3.5m to 3.5m or 3.5m to RCA video cables, generally audio adapters are much more reliable than video adapters. We cannot interface with Optical Audio.

Network: Cat 5, 5e or 6e factory terminated ethernet (network) cable will need to be purchased and run between the Wexer Kiosk and your Network room\source. Ports and Switches may need to be configured by your local IT team to allow connectivity to the Wexer device. Please remember a hardwired internet connection is mandatory and the system cannot use WiFi.

AUTOMATION: If you intend to use Automation (where the Wexer system controls the TV ON/OFF function – you will need to purchase a Commercial Grade Digital Signage Display with an RS232 port, run an additional ethernet cable between the kiosk and TV, and liase with Wexer Tech Staff to get this functionality configured before launch. Although some consumer TVs have an RS232 port, we do not recommend using this functionality on these models due to longevity concerns.

POWER: You will need to have an available standard power outlet for the Wexer Kiosk, your Television, and your Sound Bar. Wexer Installation Services are only Low-Voltage in nature. While sometimes it is possible to use extension cords, we urge you to review your local electrical safety and standards guidelines and only use approved practices when running high voltage power cable.

Projector-Based Systems

  • Pros: Larger Screen Sizes of 120”-135” allow for a more immersive experience than televisions.
Cons: Quality projectors can be expensive and require bulb replacement. Screens require replacement in time.

PROJECTOR: We recommend brand name laser projectors with at least 6,000 lumen brightness, 1 open HDMI port, 1 open RS232 port, and preferably a 12V port. We do not recommend using "mini-projectors” or generally any projector that costs under $500. Please note that every projector has different size display areas, and different mounting distance requirements, so please ensure your room can accommodate the mounting instructions and distances found in your projector’s user manual.

PROJECTION SCREENS: Some customers choose to project on the wall, or onto projector ‘paint’, or with a static (manual) screen. If you purchase a motorized screen for automation, you should ensure the automation capability of this screen can be controlled by RS232, and have an DB9 or RJ45(Ethernet) I/O port for direct connection to our system. The Wexer system cannot natively trigger infrared projection screens, and cannot interface directly with 12V ports. If the screen has a 12V trigger port, you would trigger it directly from the Projector and not the Wexer kiosk, in this case you would need to run a 12V trigger cable from Projector to Screen as part of your installation, or also supply any requisite relays/switches to transfer the signals as needed.

AUTOMATION/CONTROL SYSTEMS: If you need to connect the Wexer/Projector/Screen system to a whole-room control system such as a Crestron or Kramer, you will need to ensure your chosen control system is capable of direct interface, and that published RS-232/Automation controls are available for programming by your team.

WALL & CEILING MOUNTS: You will need to purchase quality ceiling mounts for your projector, which are compatible not only with your chosen projector, but also your specific ceiling. Motorized projection screens usually come with their own wall-mount brackets and mounting hardware.

AUDIO SYSTEMS: As projector speakers are not capable of full-room audio, if you purchase a projector and screen you will also need to purchase an audio solution – typically 2 powered speakers mounted to either side of the projection screen, wired back to the kiosk. If you wish for these speakers to project audio from any other source, such as a cable TV system, an instructor’s headset, or a Bluetooth device, you will need to purchase a mixer/sound board/dock/control unit that has the right ports and capabilities to suit your facility’s need.

CABLING:
Video: Use only straight DVI-Dual (DVI-D) to HDMI cables with no adapters or converters, in lengths up to 10 meters. Video cabling runs beyond 10 meters should also include an HDBaseT signal booster (~$150).

Audio: 3.5m to 3.5m or 3.5m to RCA video cables, generally audio adapters are much more reliable than video adapters, but this is highly dependent on what audio system you choose.

AUTOMATION: You will need additional ethernet cabling for two automation ‘trigger’ cables, consisting mostly of Cat 5/6 Ethernet cabling - one going from the Kiosk to the Projector, and one going from the Kiosk to the Screen. The Wexer System includes color coded adapters for use with these solutions.

POWER: You will need to have an available standard power outlet for the Wexer Kiosk, your Projector on the ceiling, your Projector Screen on the wall, plus one for each speaker you are using as well as one for your audio system. Wexer Installation Services are only Low-Voltage in nature. While sometimes it is possible to use extension cords, we urge you to review your local electrical safety and standards guidelines and only use approved practices when running high voltage power cable.
